Committee Meeting & June Dates

Greetings!

Congrats to all on what has hopefully been a successful school year with a great summer ahead. There are a number of dates to make note of in this first part of June.

  • June 3 – At 7pm, we will have our usual, quarterly Troop Committee and Parent Meeting. We will be in the classroom adjacent to the normal troop meeting room. All interested parents are invited to attend. (You don’t need to be a “formal” member of the committee!) We will begin with the Troop Committee business and updates for the first half of the meeting, and then I will reserve a block of time at the end to address parent questions about summer camp. Feel free to bring your son over for the CPR class that night, and then join us for the parent meeting.
  • June 10 – Our summer Court of Honor will be held in the Social Hall (at the east end down by the stage.) – We have a number of advancements and merit badges to recognize; please come to the event and applaud the successes of our great scouts!
  • June 14-21 – Camp GeronimoPlease make sure that you are getting your annual physicals completed; we are still missing several. The form is available on the website if you need one.
  • June 17 – NO TROOP MEETING – Since the majority of the group will be at summer camp, we will not be meeting on the 17th. We will miss those of you not joining us at camp and will see you on the 24th when we return.

Also: Thanks to Mr. Parizek for the fine accounting at the Pancake Breakfast; based on the final numbers, I have updated the Scout Accounts which are now posted on the website. (I will also have copies at the Committee Meeting as well.)

Thanks!

Mr. Benyi

Google Calendar Fixed

Google has fixed the issue with the online calendar. All dates should now be correct and in sync.

I have restored the link on the homepage. Please let me know if there are any questions.

Sorry for any misunderstanding. Thanks!

Google Calendar Issue *FIXED*

It has come to my attention that the Google calendar feed and the Website have appeared to be out of sync for the past few days. The Website has been displaying the correct dates on the homepage.

The website is actually a feed of the Google calendar, so it should be impossible for them to be out of sync. Unfortunately, Google has a bug in their calendar that “appeared” Nov 29th, causing events to be shifted when the Calendar feed is viewed directly.

To prevent confusion, I have removed the link from the homepage to the Google calendar until they have fixed the issue. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Silver Springs Outing

Due to many reasons, this weekend’s Outing has been moved around and revised many times. We apologize for this, but now we are ready to have a great “change of pace” Outing that will be close to home and a lot of fun. The Seven Springs area is about one hour’s drive from the church, just northwest of Bartlett Lake. We intend to establish a semi-base camp on arrival. This means we will camp without all our cooking and other heavy gear, more like day-backpacking. We will break camp in the morning and stow the camping gear in the vehicles so the Scouts will hike without the heavy parts of their gear. Here’s the agenda:

Friday, April 23rd

5 pm – Meet at Blessed Sacrament Church
5:30 pm – Departure
Fast food dinner on the way
Establish camp at Seven Springs
Campfire (conditions permitting) and campfire fun

Saturday, April 24th

Breakfast – provided by Mr. Andrews
Break camp, stow gear in vehicles
Hike – this is a medium difficulty hike that stays close to the river and shade trees and has many pools of water
Lunch – around the mid point of the hike – Scouts need to bring their own sack lunch, and a method to carry it on the hike
2:30 pm – Arrive at Blessed Sacrament Church
6 pm – Ryan Lara’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Each Scout should arrive at 5 pm on Friday with the following items:

Permission Slip
Class A Scout uniform + Class B shirt
Scout shade hat
Hiking shoes
Sleeping bag + mat
Tent (or arrangements to share)
Camelback or appropriate water container for hike
Sunscreen
Backpack lunch for Saturday (avoid items that spoil)
Funds for fast food dinner Friday
$10 transportation reimbursement
Great attitude and campfire humor

RSVP – for transportation and breakfast purposes, we would appreciate a final commitment by Thursday evening. Please email or call John Andrews on [email protected] – 602 432 1993

Mr. Kuhl, Mr. Cole and Mr. Andrews will be the adult leaders for the Outing. Please contact any of us if you have any questions or needs.
