Outing Committee

Greetings…

In our Parent/Committee meeting earlier this month, we had a conversation about outing attendance and ran out of time. We will have a follow up meeting on that subject next week on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. We will meet in the CCC Conference Room during the troop meeting, starting shortly after 7pm.

For those who expressed interest in being involved in the subcommittee for that discussion, or anyone else who is generally interested, is welcome to attend.

Thanks,

Mr. Benyi

High Adventure Overnight Trip, Sept 30 – Oct 1

Hello Troop 648

We are in the final planning stages for our high adventure trip this weekend, Sept 30 – Oct 1 to Flagstaff and Humphreys Peak. We will be departing from the church Friday late afternoon and base camping near the trailhead. We will rise early, summit the peak (12,633 feet), climb down and return to Scottsdale in the late afternoon. The top of Humphreys Peak is the highest point in the state of AZ and the 12th highest in the U.S. It should be a great trip!

High adventure is about providing exhilarating experiences and activities that push our scouts toward greater physical and mental challenges in the outdoors. These are tailored to the unique abilities of an older scout and provide them opportunities to put to use the skills that they have learned throughout the scouting program. We try to schedule 1 or 2 a year. Hiking to 12,633′ is a good example of that!

If you and/or your Scout are planning to go, please let me know as soon as possible – dmcfetters@gmail.com or (602) 793-1058.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Meeting Reminder: MOD Pizza Social – Tuesday, September 27th

Hello Troop 648!

Reminder – MOD Pizza Social Event Tomorrow! There is no troop meeting at CCC.

Please join Boy Scout Troop 648 families tomorrow, Tuesday, September 27th at MOD Pizza for some good food and great company! Everyone is welcome, so please invite your family, friends, neighbors, etc. to come. Pizzas are made by hand, put in an 800 degree gas fired oven and are ready in 3 minutes. The salads are delicious, too. A big added bonus is that MOD Pizza is generously donating 20% of sales, from anyone who brings in a flyer or says they’re there to support Boy Scouts, to our troop. The event is all-day, so you can go there for lunch or dinner or anytime in between. Dine in and mingle or carry out your food.

The address is: MOD Pizza, 10893 N Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85254. The restaurant is located on Scottsdale Rd. just north of Shea in the Safeway Shopping Center behind McDonalds and next to Wells Fargo Bank.

Hope to see you tomorrow evening! My family and I will be having dinner there around 6pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. McFetters or me. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Michael McFetters

An Epic Adventure!

Hello Troop 648!

We are back from an epic adventure to the Grand Canyon! One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World (!), we have a tendency to be a bit forgetful when it comes to the Canyon. Just a few hours drive from home is one of the most amazing places in the world. Ranked second in terms of attendance for our National Parks at 4.8 million visitors per year, seeing the Canyon, as described by Jack Schmitt, is like; “Trying to describe what you feel when you’re standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon or remembering your first love or the birth of your child. You have to be there to really know what it’s like.”

The 15 Scouts and Scouters enjoyed a few rain storms, cooler temps (down in the low 40s!), an amazing collection of wild animals, dutch oven pizza and Monkey Bread, unrivaled beauty of the Canyon and above all else, camaraderie with members of the troop family.

A great big thanks to Ryan Conrad and Zachary Harper for organizing the trip, David Cole for his planning support (and awesome cooking!), Andy Gay for pulling the trailer, Donna Ramsey for the loan of her Malibu and Jon Komar and Jacob Benyi for driving.

A reminder that tomorrow night’s meeting will focus on rank advancement and merit badges.

See you soon!
