Iron Chef Update and News about West Baldy Backpacking Trip this Weekend

Hello Troop 648

What fun last night, our first ‘Iron Chef: Dutch Oven’ cook off! The scouts split into three groups, two cooked meals using the dutch oven skills they learned this month and the third group was our own celebrity panel of judges.

In the end, no one was ‘Chopped’ and both received great reviews and helpful critique. I skipped dinner so I could taste their creations and kudos to both for a job well done! Some pictures are below.

Let the Double Dutch Competition begin!

The Royals await word on what the judges thought of their ‘Monkey Bread!’

Can it get any better than pizza and camping? The Leprechauns took home the Silver Spatula with their pizza creation. Yeah, it was that good!

National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona – Annual Flag Placement

Hello Troop 648

As a reminder, join hundreds of volunteers from across the state in honoring our veterans by placing United States flags on over 50,000 grave markers covering 225 acres! This process, while sounding a bit daunting, takes under an hour and is one of the most important events we help with throughout the year.

The event is held this Saturday, May 23 and begins with a flag ceremony at 7:00am. Meet other members of the troop 648 family near the main flag pole and next to the wall with all 5 military branch seals.

Address to the National Memorial Cemetery is 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Head north on 19th avenue, turn right on Deer Vally road. The cemetery is in the southeast corner. Parking is available along the roads within the cemetery.

Please wear your Class A uniform and bring your family and friends!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Service Opportunity – Friday, May 9th

Hello Troop 648

We have a service request from Blessed Sacrament. Friday, May 9th from 5:30pm – 7:00pm, Blessed Sacrament needs our help with clean-up from a dinner service. The church will provide any scout working the event with a free dinner!

If you can help and would like the service hours, please let me know – dmcfetters@gmail.com.

Also, if you are planning to work, please wear your Class B uniform and show up to the church (Social Hall) a few minutes before 5:30pm. You can check in at the kitchen or with any of the adults working the event. Tell them you are with the Troop and ready to help with clean-up.

Pancake Breakfast Success!

Hello Troop 648

What a great day and event for Troop 648!

All indications point toward another highly successful Pancake Breakfast fundraiser for the Troop! We appeared to have a steady, non stop flow of guests for this annual event that featured a variety of auction and raffle items, First Aid kits and outstanding food. The switch from Saturday to Sunday allowed us to capture some of the church traffic contributing to an above average number of breakfasts served.

The powers that be are combing through all the data to see what each Scout ended up earning and that information should be available soon. Many thanks go out to all the parents and Scouters that gave of their time and energy to put on a terrific event. Special thanks to Mr. Cole for his hard work organizing the event, Mr. Parizek for providing sales guidance throughout the month to the Scouts, Mrs. Conrad for her terrific efforts with the auction and Mrs. McFetters and Mrs. Traynor for their assistance with the auction and raffle.

Finally, a big thanks and congratulations to all the Scouts who put their time in selling tickets and procuring donations for the auction/raffle and making the event a fun and enjoyable one.

Reminder: PLC tomorrow night at 6:00pm and regular troop meeting at 7:00pm. See you then!

Scout Account Fundraising Opportunity, Saturday, April 25th

Hello Troop 648

We still have two slots left for the 2:30pm – 6:00pm shift for the Pet Expo being held this Saturday, April 25th at West World in Scottsdale. The opportunity is for a Scout to sell First Aid kits and Pancake Breakfast tickets at this event. It’s indoors too! The event attracts 1000s of pet lovers in the valley and should be a great opportunity for your scout to add $s to his Scout Account and just in time for summer camp!

If you are interested, please contact Kelli Demski at kdinaz@msn.com. First come, first served so don’t delay!

Thanks,
