PLC Retreat Date Adjustment

Greetings!

August is upon us and school is around the corner… This is also our time of year for the annual PLC retreat where the youth leadership convene to plan our troop calendar for the coming year.

As I announced at this past troop meeting, we are having to adjust the date back one week due to a scheduling conflict with the venue, but we should now be set for August 21-23. I will be sending out information packets later this weekend for the youth leaders who will be attending. The format will be similar to years past; more information to follow!

Thanks,

Mr. Benyi

Troop Meeting, July 28, 2015 – Special Guest

Hello Troop 648

We will have a special guest speaker tonight – Dr. Casey Huston. Dr. Huston is the former Troop Committee chairman and a Scouter with the troop. He will be speaking about drugs and alcohol abuse. Not only will this be an informative meeting, but it also fulfills Second Class requirement, 9a so please remind your Scout to bring his book.

See you tonight!

No Meeting – 7/21/15

This is a reminder that there will be no troop meeting this week because most of the troop is enjoying themselves at Camp Chawanakee for summer camp. We will resume our regularly scheduled, weekly Tuesday meetings next Tuesday on 7/28/15.

Thanks!

Mr. Benyi

The Eagles (to be) Have Landed

Hello Troop 648!

After many, many miles we have arrived safely to Camp Chawanakee! High in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, and settled along the shorelines of Shaver Lake, we are all checked in and have started day 1.

Our Internet is spotty, so we will keep this short, but everyone is doing great and we are having a fantastic time! All Merit Badge classes are in the morning, and the Scouts have lots of free time in the afternoon with a long selection of activities to participate in.

We miss you all, but happy to be here.

Have a great week!

A Couple Philmont Pictures

Hello Troop 648

While the Scouts and Scouters of T648 are well into their Philmont adventure, thought we would share a few pictures. I understand they are all doing well and having an awesome time!

See you tonight at 7pm. Remind your Scout to bring their handbook for rank advancement work!

Tuesday, July 7th Troop Meeting and PLC

Hello Troop 648

I hope you enjoyed your Fourth of July and managed to stay cool!

We will NOT be having our regularly scheduled, monthly PLC meeting tomorrow night (July 7th) as a majority of the PLC is currently out of town. We will pick it back up on the last meeting of the month, July 28th.

Additionally, for the next two weekly meetings (July 7th and July 14th), we will be working on rank advancements. This is a great opportunity for those Scouts working on any rank from Scout through First Class to work on rank requirements. A number of adults and older Scouts will be on hand to help these Scouts with their advancement. I encourage your Scout to attend and please remind them to bring their Scout Handbook.

Thanks and see you tomorrow night!

Final Information about this Weekend’s Outing

Hello Troop 648

Some final information regarding our outing to the Blue Ridge Reservoir area this weekend, June 26-28.

  • We will meet at the church near the trailer between 4:30-5:00pm
  • Highs expected to be in the low to mid 90s and lows at night in the high 50s, low 60s. Suggest your Scout brings a sweatshirt or light jacket.
  • There is a slight change for rain so you may suggest to your Scout that they pack some rain gear
  • We have 8 Scouts and 7 Scouters that will be attending
  • It has been pretty wet up there over the last few weeks, so your Scout may want to bring some insect repellent
  • If your Scout would like to bring their phone, they must have completed the Cyber Chip program – you can find it here - http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtection/CyberChip.aspx
  • Please reminder to bring a completed outing permission form, which you can find on our website, $12 for gas, probably around $15 for patrol food (Scouts are eating as a patrol, so no need to bring food), though please note this may go up or down as food will be procured tomorrow and some $money for a fast food dinner on Friday night
  • We will be canoeing on the Blue Ridge Reservoir on Saturday. Your Scout is welcome to fish, but they will need to bring their own equipment and a license. For fishing license and purchasing online, go here - https://azgfdportal.az.gov/License
  • If you have any questions, please email me at dmcfetters@gmail.com

Looking forward to a great trip to the cool pines!

Thanks and see you tonight at the Dona Kay Cafe - 9015 E. Via Linda #105, Scottsdale.

June 16 and 23 Meeting Reminders

Hello Troop 648

A couple quick reminders for the next two regular Tuesday night troop meetings.

June 16th: we will have an awesome opportunity to meet Phoenix City Council Vice Mayor, Jim Waring! Councilman Waring will discuss the rights and obligations we have as U. S. citizens and give us a sneak peak into the relationship between the city council and the local business community (as part of our Business theme for the month). Remember to bring your book if you need First Class requirement #5!

June 23rd: As our Business theme continues, we will travel offsite to a local business and hear all about what it takes to own and operate a successful business from a local businessperson. Alex Demski is organizing this event and will provide additional information like where we will be meeting, during next Tuesday’s meeting.

It’s shaping up to be another great month to be a Boy Scout in Troop 648!

Have a great weekend!
