Summer Camp in Full Swing!

Hello Troop 648

Sorry for the delay in getting this out.

Summer camp at Camp Geronimo is nearing the end. The Scouts and Scouters have been having a great time with lots of stories to tell and memories to fondly look back on.

Camp has seen its fair share of rain which helps keep the dust down, but increases the likelihood that your Scout’s duffle bag/backpack will be about 10 pounds heavier with mud!

I hope you have enjoyed a relatively quiet week and see you all on Saturday in the church parking lot!

Best,

Scoutmaster T648

Some pictures from earlier in the week…

Fearless Leaders!

This is the main shade structure in our camp, which included a couple picnic benches.

Morning flag ceremony in the center of camp

Our commuter highway

Did not take long for the card games to start

Nor did it take long for rank requirement discussions

Home for our ‘full time’ adult leaders for the week. Nice place, low maintenance.

Upcoming Meetings Information

Greetings!

We had a wonderful outing this weekend at Willow Springs Lake; thanks to all who attended. Here are a few reminders for upcoming Troop things:

  1. Our Troop meeting on Tuesday, June 27 will be held at the Paradise Valley REI, not at CCC. (12634 N Paradise Village Pkwy) – It is in the parking lot by Target on  the west side of the PV Mall. We will be having a special equipment demonstration and instruction pertaining to various camping gear. The meeting will be at the usual time; 7:00pm-8:30pm.
  2. The following week, our meeting is cancelled due to the 4th of July holiday that day. Enjoy the holiday!
  3. Just a few days later, on July 8th, we will depart for a week of fun at Summer Camp. I will send out a final information meeting about summer camp this week. Just as a reminder, I need to collect completed annual health and medical forms for every participant. If you haven’t turned in your health form, please get it to me ASAP! If anyone has questions about camp, please contact me.
  4. Because the majority of the group will be at Summer Camp, there will be no regular troop meeting on Tuesday, July 11. We will resume regular, weekly meetings at CCC on Tuesday, July 18.

Thanks!

Mr. Benyi

Happy Fathers Day, Court of Honor, Willow Springs

Greetings and Happy Father’s Day everyone!

We will be having our Summer Court of Honor this coming Tuesday, June 20 at 7pm in the East Hall at CCC. Join us for a celebration of the accomplishments of our many talented scouts. And for those of you willing to brave the heat, we will have ice cream following the ceremony. We hope to see you there.

The Willow Springs canoe trip is coming up this weekend. This is a great opportunity to work on advancement and have some FUN out of this heat; it will be quite a bit cooler up on the Rim. If you haven’t signed up and are planning to attend, please signup on the Signup Genius so that we can plan accordingly. We do have someone towing the canoe trailer, but we are still in need of someone to tow the Troop Trailer. If you are able to help us with this, please let me know ASAP.

For those going to Summer Camp, please don’t forget to complete your annual Health and Medical evaluations, (Forms A/B/C) by the end of this month. If you have any questions about this, please ask.

Lastly, here is a great article about many of the great things we get to do as Boy Scouts: http://scoutingwire.org/open-letter-to-the-parents-of-scout-aged-boys-things-i-did-because-i-was-a-boy-scout/

Have a great week!

Hello Troop 648

To the men and women who served our great country, but are no longer with us, we say thank you and honor you. We will forever be in debt for the sacrifices you made for the ideals and rights we enjoy today. May God bless you all.

And thanks to the crew who headed out last Saturday to partake in the flag planting ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery. Thanks for representing Troop 648!

Have a great day!

Memorial Day Weekend — Flag Planting Opportunity

Please see the message below from Mark Blair, father of one of our new Scouts, Arjun.

Hello Troop 648,
Our family has volunteered to be the point of contact for the Troop’s flag placement at the National Cemetery on Saturday, May 27th. This is a great event for the Scouts and a great way to kick off the summer. It’s an even better way to celebrate the sacrifice of our military heroes, and can be used for community service/volunteer hours needed for rank advancement.
I will select a meeting place and time once I get feedback from those available and looking to attend.
Please email me at hornetdermdoc@gmail.com if you would like to join us for a very moving and worthy experience.
Regards,
Mark Blair

Architecture Merit Badge

Greetings!

Great job on the Pancake Breakfast today! We had a fantastic turnout and a silent auction for the ages! We should have preliminary results to share with everyone in the next couple of days.

This is a reminder that we will be holding the Architecture Merit Badge tomorrow, May 7, at 2pm at my office, Jones Studio. The Architecture MB is a relatively easy one; the class will take between 1 – 1.5 hours; and then there is a small assignment.

I would suggest bringing a pen and notepad.

For those coming to my office, you can travel south on either the 51 or 101. When you reach the Loop 202, travel west from the 101 or east from the 51. Exit at Priest Drive and head south across the Salt River to Rio Salado Drive. Turn left and drive half a mile to Hardy Dr. where you turn right. Once on Hardy, you will immediately turn left at 1st St. From here, travel east to Wilson St and turn right. The office is located at 205 S Wilson St. in Tempe.

If you have any problem finding it, please give me a call.

Thanks!

Mr. Benyi
